FAQs
What methods do you use to remove ear wax?
Our most common method of ear wax removal is microsuction. This is a pain-free method, performed by a registered, professionally trained clinician, used to remove wax from ear canals when irrigation isn’t possible. This may be, for example, due to a perforated ear drum or grommets, where water in the ear canal could enter the inner ear and cause problems. We also offer warm water irrigation, which gently removes built-up wax by using a controlled, low pressure water jet angled towards the ear canal wall rather than at the actual blockage, which could push the wax deeper and cause discomfort or ear pain. Your visit will include an assessment to establish which form of treatment is most clinically appropriate.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes, Kathy is fully qualified through Microsuction UK and professionally insured. Kathy is also a registered nurse with the NMC, and registered with Microsuction UK as a licensed practitioner. Kathy is also approved to practice in Wales by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW). Certification can be provided on request.
Do I need to buy or prepare anything for my appointment?
We bring all of our own equipment and materials to you and take it away when we leave. We do however recommend for your comfort that you use olive oil drops in both ears twice a day for 3 days prior to your appointment. You can buy olive oil drops from most chemists, supermarkets, or online.
I live in England - can I still book an appointment?
We are only approved to practice in Wales at this moment in time, and cannot travel to addresses in England for appointments.
Can I book an appointment for my child?
All appointments are strictly for clients aged 18+.
How much will my appointment cost?
We charge a flat rate of £60 per visit - this includes your home-based assessment and ear wax removal on one or both ears. Please note that on the rare occasion we cannot undertake an ear wax removal treatment, the £60 fee will still be charged for travel and assessment costs.
